Kestrel’s DataLink Database Software [Link to www.kestrel.net] DataLink is a sophisticated Oracle database designed specifically to control physical data and document items in store, and to manage catalogue information for them. It is capable of working in direct association with other data-specific catalogues used to control meta-data, while DataLink maintains control of the links to the physical storage locations for the items in store.
![]() DataLink’s architecture is secure, and access by users to their own database is controlled by means of user profile and password. A web-enabled client user interface operates with both standard text-based query tools and a GIS such that geo-referenced data can be searched for and located in specific geographic regions. Once located, users can place online orders for retrieval of data from store and choose which method they would like to have the data delivered: conventionally via courier, electronically over the web or secure network connection, or hosted on a web-accessible server. At point of ordering, if the data are already available electronically (such as an image file of a well log) they are able to be retrieved and downloaded immediately from near-line storage. Where this is not the case the order can specify a transcription or scanning job to be carried out on the original item in store.
DataLink has a complete set of management tools to process and monitor the status of work orders for retrievals by customers, as well as create transmittals for data items removed from store, showing both the date they were checked out and their destination. DataLink also has a comprehensive set of reports and administration tools providing both users and systems administrators alike with maximum management and control of items in store at all times.
