Data Transcription & Remastering

Kestrel IDM operates a full service facilities for the transcription and reformatting of digital oil exploration data and data files from many other industry vertical markets.

Using various leading software packages including  Troika’s Magma Transcription Software, Kestrel IDM can copy, demultiplex and reformat nearly all known data recording formats.

We have a vast array of tape, cartridge and optical drives for transcribing data on media spanning the last 40 years of information technology including:

·         Open Reel Magnetic Tapes such as 9-track and 21-track;

·         Digital Linear Tape such as DLT and SDLT;

·         Square Tape Cartridge media such as 3480, 3490 and 3590;

·         8mm & D8 Cassettes such as Exabytes and AIT;

·         Digital Data Storage & 4mm Cassettes such as DAT;

·         Quarter Inch Cartridges such as SLR and MLR;

·         Travan Cartridges such as TR4;

·         Disk Media such as CD, DVD and various Optical Disk formats.

Using various cleaning and treatment facilities we can also recover data from old and decaying media, such as 9-track tapes suffering from stiction.

As with scanned images, transcribed digital data are subject to rigorous QC procedures to ensure all data have been captured correctly and that index information is accurately recorded. All outputs are backed up to an additional set of media and full read-after-write checks are made. All data listings and images of plot files created as part of the QC process are written to CD.
