Magma is a highly efficient range of data manipulation and transcription modules, flexible enough to handle all types of data and especially seismic exploration data. The system provides a conduit for the fast transfer of information to and from high capacity media, hard disk, across networks or from URL’s over Internet, Intranet or Extranet.

Magma has been thoroughly tested and can work at speeds close to the theoretical maximum transfer rates of all tape, cartridge and disk drive technologies. The modular structure of Magma is such that older drive technologies, like 21-track, and proprietary formats, such as RODE, can be added easily as required.

Magma can be used with both traditional command-line and Windows GUI interfaces. Comprehensive workflow tools provide the optimum conditions for job-control establishment and monitoring. Tape listings generated as part of the transcription process are output and saved as ASCII files for QC purposes. Seismic data, from either selected records (shots) or a trace from each record (near-trace gather), plotted to screen during transcription and demultiplexing processes are output for QC as TIFF files. All such QC files can then be saved as a permanent record of the job.

Table Of Contents (TOC) files, generated from the data as part of the transcription process, can be used to populate or correct catalogue and index records in databases used to manage the data.
